Glenview residents are holding a celebration for one of our own from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the amphitheather at Gallery Park.
Olivia Smoliga is competing in three events at the U.S. Olympic trials June 25 to July 2 in Omaha, Neb. -- including the 50 meter freetstyle, 100-meter freestyle and the 100 meter backstroke.
Now 17, Olivia has been swimming competitively since she was 10 years old as part of the Glenview Titan Aquatic Club and also for the last three years on Glenbrook South's swim team.
She won three state championships and holds three state high school records.
Among the crowd cheering her on Saturday will be Village President Kerry Cummings, GTAC Coach Steve Iida and GBS Coach Kelly Timson. The GBS band Mungo will perform. A banner will be available to sign that her teammates will bring to the Olympic trials in Omaha.
Here's the flyer for the rally.
