Project description and background
This project consists of resurfacing work on the major roads that run through the Glen: Patriot Boulevard, West Lake Avenue west of Patriot and Chestnut Avenue west of Lehigh. Along with a new asphalt surface repairs will be made to drainage structure, curb and gutters and sidewalks.
The Glen Main stem road were built between 1998 and 2001, as the former Glenview Naval Air Station was being redeveloped into The Glen. Typically with new development, the final roadway surface course in not placed until after 90 percent of homes or businesses are occupied to limit wear and tear from construction traffic. In this case, however, the main road served as major connector through the community, and therefore needed the final surface course earlier than they originally would have. With this decision, the Village programmed one additional resurfacing project prior to retirement of The Glen TIF.
The Village worked with IDOT to secure designation of The Glen Main Stem roads (Patriot, West Lake, Chestnut and Lehigh) as Federal Aid Routes (FAU) eligible for federal funds. The Village secured federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) approval to cover 70 percent of the total project costs. Click here to view the project limit map.
