Glenview Electricity Aggregation Program
On November 13, 2012, the Village voted to join the Lakeshore Power Alliance consortium, with the villages of Wilmette, Northfield and Kenilworth, and selected the Alliance's current supplier, MC Squared Energy Services LLC (mc2). The mc2 electricity rate of 4.035 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is effective through May 31, 2013 -- a savings of approximately 54 percent off the comparable non-summer ComEd tariff rate.
Enrollment in the program was automatic, if you were eligible (See the FAQs below for more information) and were a resident of Glenview in December 2012. If you are participating in the program, your ComEd bill should reflect the electrical supply rate of 4.035 cents per kilowatt-hour. Effective June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2014, the second-year price of 4.977 cents for kilowatt-hour will be in effect. Here's more information.
Misleading Solicitations Information
With the agreement with mc2 for through the Lakeshore Power Alliance, residents have seen an increased number of calls and mail solicitations to switch their supply of electricity from ComEd to other suppliers. Please be advised that any mailings not on Village letterhead are not related to the Lakeshore Power Alliance and should be read carefully. Neither the Village nor mc2 will contact you by phone and will never ask you for your ComEd account number. To file a complaint about a misleading solicitation, residents are urged to contact the Illinois Commerce Commission at (800) 524-0795 or by going to www.icc.illinois.gov/consumer/complaint.
Individual Choice Green Power Program
In addition to reducing the rates of electricity, the Village has worked with mc2 to allow participants to individually choose a renewable electricity option. This option will allow participants to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) at their discretion equal to their electricity supply usage. Should participants elect this option, their rate will be 4.11 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). To sign up for this program, follow these steps:
2. Select: Individual Choice MC2 100% Green Power Program
3. Enter: Email address, ZIP code and ComEd account number, then authorize and submit
You may also call mc2 directly at (855) 564-8129 and ask for the enrollment department.
Background and More Information
On the November 6, 2012 election ballot, a referendum was held regarding electrical aggregation. The question asked of Glenview residents was: “Shall the Village of Glenview have the authority to arrange for the supply of electricity for its residential and small commercial retail customers who have not opted out of such program?” Glenview voters approved the referendum with 74% of the votes in favor.
Electrical Aggregation, permitted through state statues deregulating ComEd, enables municipalities to seek alternate suppliers of electricity in hopes of lowering rates.” This in no way alters the actual delivery of electricity, as this service would still be provided by ComEd.
