Appearance Commission

The Appearance Commission's role is to protect Glenview’s distinctive character by regulating the general appearance of many of its developments. The goal is to ensure that developments are harmonious with their surroundings, contributing to a less cluttered, more attractive community. The seven-member Commission, appointed by the Board of Trustees, includes architects, landscape architects, and at least one “owner, or an officer of a corporation owning business, commercial or industrial property in Glenview.” The Commission reviews, analyzes and approves all aesthetic changes (including facade alterations, signage, and landscaping)) to commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential developments and issues Certificates of Appropriateness.

Meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Please note May 4th Appearance Commission meeting has been canceled.

Zoning Board of Appeals

Glenview is divided into numerous zoning districts which define the type of development -- residential, commerical, industrial -- that can be located there. Each district specifies unique regulations regarding permissible land uses, bulk regulations, and other requirements. In some circumstances, unique conditions merit an exception from these requirements. The Zoning Board of Appeals is made up of seven residents appointed by the Board of Trustees and hears cases and holds public hearings regarding variations of the Zoning Ordinance. Single-family residential variance decisions are final; commercial & multiple-family residential variances must be approved by the Board of Trustees.

The ZBA convenes the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
