The Downtown Revitalization Plan
In August 2006, the Village Board of Trustees adopted a Downtown Revitalization Plan. The goal of this plan was to provide guidance for development within the downtown to ensure that it will best accomodate the community’s needs. This guidance called for the creation of an Ordinance which would define how this change should occur.
Most people are familiar with traditional zoning codes, but Glenview’s downtown will utilize a different approach called a Form Based Code. While zoning codes tend to focus on very specific property uses, a Form Based Code focuses more on the look, feel, and form of the types of buildings that will be constructed within the downtown and how these buildings will relate to each other and to surrounding properties.
