Engineering Intern (Capital Projects Dept) (JOB# 06-11)

PURPOSE:

The Village of Glenview is seeking to fill one (1) unpaid engineering intern position. The Village's internship program is geared toward undergraduate and/or graduate-level college students seeking to supplement their academic training, and expand their professional knowledge and skills in the civil engineering field. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Construction Division staff with special projects and assignments relating to the Village's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects, and other related duties as assigned. The position reports directly to the Construction Division Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Successful candidate will have a high school degree or equivalent, and be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with an emphasis in Civil Engineering, or a closely aligned field. Knowledge of MS Office suite software applications is highly desirable. Successful candidate will also possess: the ability to develop reports and analyze data through computer applications, a working knowledge of CAD (MicroStation) and GIS systems, land surveying, mapping, and other general engineering practices. The ability to make complex engineering computations, and to prepare and read engineering plans and specifications is also desirable. Working knowledge of basic civil engineering principles, including trigonometry and higher mathematics used in engineering practices is a plus. The successful candidate will be dependable and have a solid work ethic. Valid driver?s license required. Candidate must be willing to commit to a minimum of 15-20 hours per week from mid-May to mid-August 2011. Outdoor work, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, is required. The internship offer is contingent upon the candidate?s successful completion of a criminal background check, pre-employment medical exam, including a drug screen.
