Precipitation Information
Information on precipitation is gathered in three ways: rain fall, the water level at Techny Basin, and the water level of the West Fork of the Chicago River's North Branch.
PLEASE NOTE: Readings are updated every 20 minutes.
Service Center Rain Fall
Rainfall measures are taken at the Public Works Facility located at 1333 Shermer Road. Rainfall is measured in inches. The rain gauge provides a cumulative amount of rain that has fallen on a given day.
Techny Basin Reservoir Level
The water level in the Techny Basin is measured in feet. When empty, the basin reads 593 feet elevation and when full, it reads 631 feet. When filled to capacity the Techny Basin holds 365 million gallons of water.
West Fork of the Chicago River's North Branch
The water level in the river is measured at East Lake Avenue and the elevation of the river is measured in feet.
