Fraudulent automated calls regrading ATM cards and credit cards

Over the weekend some Glenview residents received phone calls from an automated calling system  informing them there was a problem with their ATM card or credit card.  They were instructed to enter their account number and personal identification number or "PIN" to fix the problem.  If they did not enter their information the account would supposedly be closed or canceled.  The calls were not from a legitimate source it was criminals attempting to gain account information for fraudulent purposes. Similar "Phishing" incidents occurred at a  Credit Union in Du Page County on Thursday last week. The local police, FBI and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have all been advised of the situation. Those with caller ID reported the calls coming from "out of area" or various locations throughout the United States and Canada.

No legitimate financial institution will ever contact you and ask you to provide or verify you personal identifying or account information.  If you receive a call like this DO NOT respond or provide and information.  SIMPLY HANG UP!  If you wish to contact your financial institution do so through the contact information you have on your card or your account statements.  Do not use any contact information provided by an unsolicited caller.  The same  response is true for any version of this scam sent through the mail or e-mail.
