Air Soft Guns: The Dangers

Air Soft Guns are increasingly popular and available locally. These "toy guns" are made to look and feel real. Air Soft guns project a plastic BB at 200-400 feet per second. They can cause physical and personal damage. Bruising can occur!

State Law (720 ILCS 535/2) mandates that anyone under 13 may not purchase, sell, give or be lent an Air Soft Gun unless by a parent or guardian.

The Glenview Police Department concerns begin when these Air Soft Guns are displayed on public property. A citizen will call 911 and report it as a real gun. Officers responding will treat it as an EMERGENCY and as a REAL GUN until notified further.

Parents, please ensure the safety of your child, citizen's and responding patrol officers. Only allow Air Soft Guns on PRIVATE property, supervised and with protective eyewear and clothing.

If you have any questions regarding Air Soft Guns, please contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 847-904-4455.
