Board Direction
- Regarding the purchase of two Depot Square Senior Housing Units located at 1220 Depot Street. When originally built, the
Village donated land for this project with the goal of developing affordable senior housing.
The Village keeps the units affordable through a resale purchase option. Unit owners must attempt to
sell their units to a list of eligible purchasers maintained by the Village, who buy the units at a formula
price based on (among other things) the consumer price index. However, in this case the list has been exhausted
and the sellers of the two units were unable to find a buyer from the list. The Village had the option to purchase one or both units at the formula price,
and then resell or rent them. In this case, the owner is entitled to only ten percent of the sales price
until Village resells or rents the unit. The Board chose not to exercise this option, and
directed staff to explore alternatives. Additional discussion on this matter will be handled in Executive Session,
as it involves the possible purchase or sale of real estate.
