Veterans Day observance

The Village of Glenview will honor the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans with a Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday, November 11, at the Veterans Memorial in downtown Glenview, at the corner of Glenview Road and River Drive.

Sponsored by Joseph M. Sesterhenn American Legion Post 166, the observance will include speeches and a rifle salute.

November 11 is set aside as a legal public holiday to honor the nation's veterans. It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 that a cessation of hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect to end World War I, then regarded as the end of the "war to end all wars." Congress pass a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.

Glenview Village Hall will be open on Veterans Day, and garbage will be collected as usual.
