Emergency Declaration signed

Glenview Village President Jim Patterson today, April 8, 2020, declared a state of emergency exists in the Village of Glenview. Like other communities that have done so recently, the decision to invoke this measure is now necessary to keep Village operations going in light of the public health crisis arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proclamation signed today by President Patterson provides temporary powers to Village officials to ensure necessary actions can be taken in order to effectively address life, health and safety issues and continually provide essential Village services. Among the powers granted:

  • Emergency purchases – allows the Village President and Village Manager to enter into contracts for goods and services deemed necessary.
  • Emergency staffing – allows the Village President and Village Manager to manage the assignment and allocation of personnel, equipment and materials to protect the health and safety of the public, first responders and all Village employees.

“Preparedness, response and recovery from the COVID-19 virus is of paramount importance," President Patterson stated.

The emergency declaration remains in force until the adjournment of the first regular meeting of the Village Board of Trustees, but could be extended by a majority vote of the Village Board.
