The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) is proposing improvements to Landwehr Road between W. Lake Avenue and Hampton Court, in Glenview, Illinois. The 0.5-mile-long road provides access to vital institutions, including schools, hospitals, fire stations, and recreation centers. The project will provide students, faculty, and residents with vital transportation connections to Henry Winkelman Elementary School.
Proposed improvements include adding new turn lanes at the school entrance as well as new sidewalks. The project will also include resurfacing the roadway, refreshing the pavement markings, and drainage improvements. These improvements aim to address the congestion and traffic safety issues the community is experiencing, as well as enhance pedestrian facilities along the corridor.
The project is being funded by Motor Fuel Taxes (MFT) and construction is anticipated to begin in 2026.
A public informational meeting is scheduled for Feb. 21, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Winkleman School, located at 1919 Landwehr Rd, Glenview, IL 60026. The original meeting, scheduled for Jan. 16, 2024, was canceled due to inclement weather.
