Fire and EMS Services

The Glenview Fire Department provides FIRE and EMS services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and operates 5 fire stations strategically located throughout the village to minimize response times.

The apparatus responding from those stations include 4 engine companies, 1 ladder truck company, 3 advanced life support ambulances and 1 command vehicle. All responding personnel are cross trained as firefighters and paramedics and all fire suppression apparatus are equipped with a full complement of paramedic equipment. The department's goal is to deliver advanced life support care within 4 to 6 minutes of a medical emergency.

Public Education​

The department is committed to educating the public on fire safety and prevention through a variety of life-safety programs and educational opportunities. Some of these programs include: preschool, elementary and middle school education seminars, Boy Scout Merit Badge instruction, first aid, CPR, and fire extinguisher training (local business only). When able, the Department also will provide station tours and appear at block parties upon request. For a full list of services or for more information, click h​ere.

Career opportunities

Through a testing process, an eligibility list for the position of firefighter/paramedic is established every two years, and is advertised in local/regional newspapers, on multiple job search engines and on this website. To be eligible for testing, you must meet the following requirements by the application deadline: 

• 21 years or older
• a U.S. Citizen
• a high school graduate (or GED equivalent
• vision correctable at 20/30
• pass a medical exam
• show proof of Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) completion

The final eligibility list is established after the written exam. Once the department determines a need for hire, a determined number of listed candidates will go through a background investigation and a polygraph test, and will be interviewed by the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. If approved by the Board, the hiring candidate will go through a psychological and medical evaluation. New hires are on probation for one year.

Safe Haven

Illinois law states that as long as you don't harm your baby, you can hand your newborn (30 days or younger) to personnel at any hospital, police station or staffed fire station in Illinois for adoption with no questions asked.

No one will ask your name. Your baby will get medical care and be adopted into a loving family. You can even provide anonymous medical information, so your baby will grow up with a medical history.

Premise Alert Program

The Illinois Premise Alert Program (Public Act 96-0788) provides for public safety agencies in the State of Illinois to allow people with disabilities, special needs, or both to provide information to police, fire and EMS personnel to be kept in a database. The information provided can be used to offer guidance and assistance to public safety workers in responding to and assisting those persons with disabilities or special needs.
