Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)


The Illinois Freedom of Information Act​, (FOIA) requires that all public bodies make public records available to the public, subject to certain exemptions.


How To Submit a Request

  • Visit the Next Request website to submit a FOIA Request. 
  • You can create an account when you submit a request to view the timeline of your request, an email is required. Please visit the Next Request Help Desk for assistance with accessing and managing your request.  
  • By email or fax. Email address for Glenview' FOIA Offices can be found on the right side of the page. For Police records please fax request to 847-729-9489. All other requests can be faxed to 847-724-1518.

All requests for non-exempt information must be responded to within five (5) working days after the receipt of the written request, unless additional time is required, as allowed by the Act. The requester must be notified by mail, email, or phone in five (5) days if an extension is required. Requests for a commercial purpose will be responded to within twenty-one (21) working days. You must disclose whether your request is for a commercial purpose. It is a violation of the Freedom of Information Act for a person to knowingly obtain a public record for a commercial purpose without disclosing that it is for a commercial purpose, if requested to do so by the public body. 5 ILCS 140.3.1(c)).


Exemptions include some personnel information, disciplinary actions, and vulnerability assessments. When a request is made to inspect or copy a public record that contains information that is exempt from disclosure, but also contains information that is not exempt from disclosure, the public body may elect to redact the information that is exempt. The public body shall make the remaining information available for inspection and copying.
