The Village of Glenview has one (1) opening for a temporary part-time Community Development Intern in the Community Development department. Under general direction, the intern would provide support to senior management in the Planning, Engineering, and Inspectional Services divisions by planning, coordinating and organizing special projects or initiatives; conducting surveys and studies of industry trends and best practices; reviewing technical reports and synthesizing complex or ambiguous data. The position also performs detailed research and analyses on economic development and process improvements, summarizes findings in reports and memoranda, formulates recommendations. The intern would provide exceptional customer service to residents in person, over the telephone, and via written correspondence and is expected to develop productive working relationships with other departments, officials, and consultants, and collaborate on inter-departmental project teams. The position also provides administrative support to the Director of Community Development, assists in responding to Freedom of Information Act requests, prepares and develops presentations on assigned projects and programs, and performs other duties as assigned.
Employment as the Community Development Intern is intended to supplement undergraduate or graduate study in Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related field. A successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills. Top candidates will be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively administer assigned projects and perform both complex and routine administrative work with speed and accuracy; must also be proficient in MS Office programs. Valid driver’s license is also required. Candidates must be able to commit to working a minimum of 15-20 hours per week, with occasional evening meetings required. The expectation is that the selected candidate will perform a summer internship (generally May-August), however the internship could be modified or extended.
Starting pay is $15-$18/hour with no fringe benefits.
