Hawthorne Lane Improvements
2024 public improvement project
The proposed project includes 0.25 miles of improvements on Hawthorne Lane from East Lake Avenue to Elmwood Avenue.
The following major improvements are included in this project:
- Installation of approximately 1,2000 feet of 8-inch Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) water main and services
- Storm sewer improvements, including the installation of 700 feet of 12-inch and 18-inch PVC storm sewer and 1,000 feet of 24-inch Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP)
- Pipe and sanitary manhole repairs and replacement of sanitary services, if necessary
- Road reconstruction with asphalt pavement
- Parkway restorations with sod
Tentative Schedule
- Design open house – November 9, 2023
- Bid award – Anticipated February 2024
- Design pre-construction meeting – February 21, 2024
- Approximate starting date of construction – April 2024
- Approximate completion of construction – July 2024
Schedule may be revised due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Work outside these hours will require Village approval.
Fianl Landscaping 07/19/2024
The week of July 15 the contractor will continue final landscape restoration. They will place topsoil in advance of the new sod in the areas that were affected by construction.
The week of July 22 the contractor will complete any landscaping they did not finish the previous week.

July 12 Update 07/15/2024
The week of July 8 the contractor and village conducted final inspections of the newly installed utilities. The contractor placed the final layer of asphalt on Thursday June 11. The contractor also repaired and restored all asphalt driveways.
The week of July 15 the contractor is tentatively scheduled to conduct final landscape restoration. They will place topsoil and make final grading and shaping of the topsoil before placing sod in the areas that were affected by construction.

The week of July 8 the contractor and village conducted final inspections of the newly installed utilities. The contractor placed the final layer of asphalt on Thursday June 11. The contractor also repaired and restored all asphalt driveways.
The week of July 15 the contractor is tentatively scheduled to conduct final landscape restoration. They will place topsoil and make final grading and shaping of the topsoil before placing sod in the areas that were affected by construction.

July 5 Update 07/05/2024
The week of July 1, the contractor has completed restoring the parkway where the village extended the storm sewer on Hawthorne to Canterbury. The contractor plans on placing the final layer of asphalt and sod after the 4th of July.
The week of July 8th the contractor and village are planning on making final inspections of the newly installed utilities. The contractor will then place topsoil and make and final grading adjustment in preparation of parkway restoration. The contractor is tentatively scheduled to place the final layer of asphalt on Thursday June 11. Final landscaping and driveway repair closely follow that.

June 26 Update 07/01/2024
The week of June 24, the contractor completed installing the storm sewer extension from Canterbury to Hawthorne. They will also make final adjustment to utility structure to accommodate the final layer of asphalt.
The week of July 1, the contractor will complete the final grading and placing of topsoil in the parkway as well as conduct final inspections and checklists. The contractor plans on placing the final layer of asphalt and sod after the 4th of July.

June 21 Update 06/21/2024
The week of June 17, the contractor will continue installing the new storm sewer between Canterbury and Hawthorne. The contractor will be restoring this area with topsoil and new sod.
The week of June 24, the contractor will finish installing the storm sewer extension from Canterbury to Hawthorne. Then the contractor will begin final landscaping including the placement of new sod in affected areas. Please remember these dates are dependent on suitable weather.

May 24 Update 05/24/2024
The week of May 20, 2024, the contractor continued grading the road in preparation of the first asphalt layer. The first layer of asphalt is tentatively schedule to be paved on Hawthorne middle to late next week (May 23). Paving the first layer of asphalt typically takes only one day, but during this time it will be extremely difficult to get residents in and out of their driveways. The village recommends residents limiting their trips in order to avoid inconveniences
The week of May 28, 2024 the contractor will begin installing the storm sewer extension that will improve drainage in the area. They will begin by connecting to the existing storm sewer system on Meadow Lane and continue installing storm sewer as they move towards Hawthorne. This area of the improvements is expected to take 3 weeks to complete.

Phase II Construction 05/17/2024
The week of May 13, 2024, the contractor began working on phase II of construction, which is construction of the road. The contractor began excavating the road and installing the new stone base in preparation of the first layer of asphalt. During this time each home will have a stone ramp to get in and out of their driveway.
The first layer of asphalt is tentatively schedule to be paved on Hawthorne middle to late next week (May 22). The week of April 15, 2024, the contractor has begun installing storm sewer improvements. The storm sewer improvements involve installing a 24 diameter pipe along Hawthorne, as well as, installing select structures along the edge of the road in the parkway. These storm improvements are designed to improve drainage and reduce flooding in your area.
The week of April 22, 2024, the contractor will continue installing storm sewer improvements.
