Village Board approves more new restaurants as part of Downtown Glenview revitalization
August 07, 2024
Aug. 6, 2024 – The Village of Glenview Board of Trustees approved redevelopment agreements Tuesday night that will bring two more new restaurants to Downtown Glenview, marking the latest milestone in the ongoing revitalization of the Village’s Downtown District.
Five new Downtown restaurants have now been approved by the Board in the past year. The latest additions approved by the Board on Tuesday include Hometown Coffee & Juice and The Foxtail Glenview House.
These restaurants join two concepts from Ballyhoo Hospitality -- Jackman & Co. and Zenzi Den – as well as the new restaurant planned at the northwest corner of Grove and Waukegan, as part of the new Downtown restaurant lineup.
“There is so much momentum in our Downtown right now,” said Michael Jenny, Village President. “More activation in the Downtown benefits everyone, and we look forward to working with our new and existing business owners on a Downtown we can all be proud of.”
Hometown Coffee & Juice, which has locations in Glencoe, Lake Forest and Winnetka, is a cafe and gathering place that features a menu of freshly brewed coffee, pastries and smoothie bowls. The new restaurant will be moving in at 1869 Grove Street across from the Downtown Metra station.
The Village is providing Hometown Coffee & Juice and the property owner a $500,000 grant to demolish an industrial building, add surface parking and outdoor dining amenities, in addition to remodeling of the tenant space.
The Foxtail Glenview House, at 1843 Glenview Road, will be the third location of the popular Mediterranean restaurants in Des Plaines and Downers Grove. The Foxtail will preserve the name and history associated with the iconic Glenview House, where the Village’s charter was adopted and signed in 1899.
The Village is providing Foxtail with a $1.4 million grant and $1.5 million loan to rehab the building and make critical updates to the kitchen and dining areas.
The use of economic grants and loans is in keeping with the Downtown Strategic Plan the Board adopted in August 2021, which followed a 10-month Glenview Connect process to gather resident feedback on future economic development. The Plan identified the need to incentivize and recruit new businesses by providing economic gap assistance.
“It’s exciting to be able to accomplish exactly what the residents of Glenview directed us to do during the Glenview Connect process,” Jenny said. “We heard the desire for a vibrant Downtown. We heard the demand for new, exciting restaurants. We know people want an activated space for retailers, events and pedestrians. These restaurants are laying the groundwork for a Downtown where people want to spend time, not just pass it.”
