Peddler & Solicitor License


Solicitors and peddlers must apply and register with the Village of Glenview's Police Department.


Solicitor and Distributor Ordinance

Solicitor means any person requesting or seeking to obtain gifts or contributions of money, clothing or any other thing of value or the pledge of any type of future donation for the support or benefit of any charitable, political, religious or nonprofit association, organization, project, corporation, partnership, trust or joint venture, or any combination thereof.


  • Applications are filed with the Police Department.
  • Applicants must be identified with a state or federal issued ID.
  • Applicants will undergo a background check completed by the records division of the Glenview Police Department.
  • Applicants will have their photo taken at the Glenview Police Department – Records Division. An ID badge will be issued to approved solicitors. No solicitor may go door-to-door without an ID badge.
  • Soliciting hours are limited from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., 7 days a week. Additionally, solicitors may not approach a door with a “No Solicitor/Peddler” sign posted.


Peddlers Ordinance

Handbill distributor means any person who travels either by foot or by some means of conveyance, to or from any residence, and hangs, affixes or otherwise distributes any book, handbill, flyer, circular, poster or other form of writing that contains advertisements for the sale of goods, wares, merchandise, foodstuffs, insurance, publications, subscriptions or services of any kind, character or description whatsoever, on any premises or residence, either for or on behalf of himself or any other person; or any person who travels either by foot or by some means of conveyance, to or from any residence, or upon any highway, street, byway or sidewalk, distributing, delivering and/or handing out any handbill, flyer, circular, poster or other form of advertisement for the sale of goods, wares, merchandise, foodstuffs, insurance, publications, subscriptions or services of any kind, character or description whatsoever, either for or on behalf of himself or any other person.


Peddler means any person who takes orders for, offers to sell, sells, or seeks to obtain orders or sales from persons within the Village, including, but not limited to, any person within any residence or apartment, or from any person upon any street, highway, byway, alley or sidewalk within the Village, for any goods, wares, merchandise, foodstuffs, insurance, publications, subscriptions or services of any kind, character or description whatsoever.

  • Peddlers are required to pay a $60 fee annually. Peddler licenses expire Dec 31 of the year issued. There is no prorating the fee.
  • Peddling hours are limited from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., 7 days a week. Additionally, solicitors may not approach a door with a “No Solicitor/Peddler” sign posted.
