Winter Storm Warning in effect Nov. 9-10
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Cook County and throughout Chicagoland Sunday night and into Monday morning. Bands of intense lake effect snow are expected, and travel could become difficult to nearly impossible during the most intense snow -- including during the morning commute.
The Village's Public Works crews are standing by and ready to respond. Plowing operations are typically initiated after 1 to 2 inches of snow have fallen or earlier if conditions warrant. If snow is falling at greater than 2-3 inches per hour, expect travel conditions to be dangerous.
Please note: Vehicles should not be parked on the street after 2 inches of snow have fallen.
A few other snow clearing tips:
- Residents are responsible for ensuring that refuse containers are accessible. To keep plows from hitting garbage cans, place them on the curb, not in the street.
- Pushing snow from your driveway into the street is prohibited by Village ordinance.
- Please keep fire hydrants on or near your property clear of snow for easy access in case of emergency.
- Never use your hand to clear a clog in a snow blower, even if unplugged. Instead, use a broom handle.
- Never use ice picks on driveways or sidewalks. They can damage the surface. Glenview Municipal Code requires homeowners clear to the sidewalks abutting their property for the benefit of pedestrians.

Here are the latest details regarding this storm system:
1) A band of moderate to locally very heavy snow blasting ashore Sunday evening. This band is expected to surge well inland across northeast Illinois and portions of northwest Indiana, gradually weakening as it gets farther inland from the lake.
2) After perhaps a short lull in the intensity, a second, more narrow band of intense lake effect snow is expected to begin impacting areas close to the lake in northeast Illinois near or shortly after midnight. Intense snowfall, accompanied at times by thunder and lightning, will produce localized rates of 2-3"+ per hour.
This intense band is expected to move inland over Lake County Illinois and then sweep across the Chicago metro area overnight into Monday morning. This band should continue moving eastward crossing into northwest Indiana Monday morning. Precise timing of this band is still hard to pin down as lake effect snow is often quick fickle.
Conditions underneath the intense snow band are expected to be really bad with rapid accumulations of snow making it difficult to keep roads clear, resulting in dangerous to nearly impossible travel conditions. The band is only expected to be around 10 miles wide, so conditions will vary greatly over short distances which could also lead to significant differences in snow accumulations over short distances as well.
Continue to stay tuned for the latest updates and plan accordingly for the Monday morning commute - strongly consider postponing or altering travel plans.
