Village to fund, manage free food scraps drop-off program
Help save our landfills by composting your food scraps for FREE!
After a successful pilot program in 2025, the Village will now be managing the free food scraps composting program in 2026.
Residents can drop off food scraps at one of two locations:
- Glenview Public Library (1930 Glenview Road)
- Public Works Service Center (2498 East Lake Avenue)
Here’s what can go in the bins: (1) meat, chicken, seafood, fish and bones; (2) fruits and vegetables; (3) coffee grounds and tea leaves; (4) dairy products; (5) eggshells; and (6) grains, cereal, and baked goods.
Here’s what CANNOT go in the bins: non-food items including (1) plastic bags (except for BPI compostable certified bags); (2) twist off ties; (3) produce stickers and wrappers; (4) pizza boxes, paper plates, paper cups, juice boxes; (5) plastic cutlery; and (6) liquids. Each drop-off site will provide a garbage can where the non-food scraps can be deposited.
As a reminder, the Village offers seasonal at-home composting collection from April 1 - November 30 through its contract with Groot. For a one-time fee, Groot will provide you a dedicated cart for landscape waste and compost collection and it will be collected on your regular collection day. Learn more: glenview.il.us/composting.
Thanks to Greener Glenview for piloting this program in 2025!
