  Go Back

This year promises to be another busy one for roadway and infrastructure improvements throughout Glenview.

The Village has allocated more than $40 million toward capital improvements in 2026, including more than four miles of roadway reconstruction. Reconstruction involves removing and rebuilding the entire road base and curbing. While the pavement is opened, crews also replace or repair water, storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure.

Another 2.1 miles of roadway are scheduled for resurfacing, which includes the replacement of the top layer of pavement, along with curb and gutter replacement where necessary. This approach is typically used on streets where the underlying infrastructure remains in good condition and is expected to perform well for many more years.

Here's the rundown on some of the more significant projects kicking off this year:

Waukegan / East Lake Intersection Improvements

This project is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce backups that many drivers experience, especially during peak hours. New right turn lanes will be added along with updated streetlights and landscaping that better frame the corridor. Decorative sitting walls will also be installed at the northwest and southeast corners. ComEd and other utilities have already started undergrounding and relocating the utility lines, an important step that improves reliability and clears visual clutter from the streetscape.

Waukegan Road Water Main Replacement

The Village will be performing water main replacement along Waukegan Road over the next two years. The southern portion of town will be completed this year, and the northern portion of Waukegan will be tackled next year.

Lehigh Bridge Replacement

Already underway, the replacement of the Lehigh Bridge over East Lake Avenue is a Cook County project that involves a full bridge replacement. The Village is contributing decorative headwalls and railings, new landscaping and upgraded lighting. Be on the lookout for flaggers and lane closures as this project continues through the spring and summer.

Downtown Improvement Projects

The Village Board recently approved two contracts tied to the Pine/Depot/Glenview Road Improvement Project in Downtown Glenview. One contract covers the extension of Depot Street to Glenview Road, along with storm sewer improvements and streetscape features that will improve both drainage and the pedestrian experience. The second contract focuses on burying overhead utilities along Pine Street and the adjacent alley.
