Downtown Glenview will soon see new public art take shape following Village Board approval at its April 7 meeting of a Downtown Mural Program and the first mural installation in partnership with the Glenview Art League.

The program is designed to add visual interest, tell local stories and build on the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Glenview. It focuses on placing murals on highly visible building walls, particularly those with large blank facades, to enhance the area’s character and pedestrian experience.

The first mural is planned for the west wall of the building at 1746 Glenview Road. The design, developed with input from the Glenview Art League, artist Anne Farley Gaines and community members, highlights familiar local elements, including the Glenview Road bridge, the North Branch of the Chicago River and native wildlife. It will also include interactive features that invite visitors to engage with the artwork.

Through the agreement, the Glenview Art League will lead installation and host community events where residents can help create portions of the mural using mosaic tiles. The project is funded through a Cook County Arts grant previously secured by the Village.

Installation is expected to be completed this summer.
