What to Know: Block party season

As summer approaches, neighborhoods across Glenview are preparing for the return of block party season.

A longtime community tradition, block parties offer residents an opportunity to connect with neighbors, welcome new families and spend time together close to home. The Village of Glenview permits block parties on residential streets, provided events do not block intersections, cul-de-sacs or other roadways.

Residents interested in hosting a block party must first obtain a free permit from the Village. Applications are available online or in person at Village Hall, 2500 East Lake Avenue.

The one-page application requests basic event details, including the date and time, organizer contact information and a simple site plan showing the proposed street closure.

To help ensure safety, street closures are only permitted using moveable barricades provided by the Village. Public Works staff will deliver and remove barricades before and after the event. Parked vehicles may not be used to block roadways.

Residents may also request a visit from Glenview police officers or firefighters during their event. While emergency response remains the top priority, public safety personnel will make every effort to stop by when available.
