The Village of Glenview will join communities nationwide this summer in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a community event featuring patriotic programming, family activities, live music and food trucks at Jackman Park.

The free public celebration will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, in conjunction with the Glenview Park District’s Bearfoot in the Park concert series.

Family-friendly activities, including lawn games, face painting and balloon twisting, are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. A public reading of the Declaration of Independence will begin at 5:30 p.m., commemorating the historic first public readings of the document on July 8, 1776, following its adoption by the Continental Congress.

Live music will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. with a performance by The Chicago Experience, a tribute band celebrating the music of Chicago. Food trucks will be available throughout the evening in the Triangle Parking Lot, with food and beverages available for purchase. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and wear red, white and blue.

The event is being organized through a partnership between the Village of Glenview, the Glenview Park District, the Glenview Public Library and the Glenview Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the July 8 celebration, the Glenview Public Library will offer America 250-themed programming throughout the year. More information, event updates and additional details are available at glenview.il.us/america250.

As part of Glenview’s sustainability efforts, attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, containers, bags and utensils and to help minimize waste by taking items home after the event.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be canceled. Weather-related updates will be available the day of the event by calling 847-724-3337 and selecting extension 4. Alcohol is not permitted on park grounds.

Residents can also celebrate Glenview’s America 250 festivities with limited-edition Glenview Bear apparel and accessories available through the community’s online America 250 store. The store will remain open through May 31, with orders expected to arrive before the Fourth of July.
