Here's a rundown of the latest construction updates from around the Village:

Dewes and Harlem: The Village is adding traffic calming measures and pedestrian safety improvements along Dewes Street between Shermer and Harlem and on Harlem Avenue between Linneman and Golf.

This project followed resident feedback about speeding. The Village's Traffic Committee deployed speed boards and selective enforcement to address the concerns, and further review by the Village's traffic consultant resulted in the following proposed improvements:

  • Striped on-street Parking to narrow travel lanes.
  • Curb Bumpouts to narrow the roadway pavement area and reduce the length of pedestrian crosswalks.
  • Spruce, Elm, & Lincoln intersections.
  • Mid-block between 2303 & 2249 Dewes
  • Median Island at the Washington intersection to narrow the roadway, require drivers to adjust vehicle movement, and reduce the length of pedestrian crosswalk.
  • Added Pavement Markings and Signage to alert drivers of pedestrians and bicyclists.

Work on this project is expected to begin the week of June 9. Learn more about the Dewes & Harlem project.

Central Road Pedestrian Bridge: The pedestrian bridge that crosses the river on Central Parkway will be closed this fall as the Park District installs a new bridge. Work is set to begin on Aug. 4 and is expected to be completed by September 23, 2025, weather permitting. The scope of work calls for the existing bridge to be removed. Then new concrete footings will be installed, and a new pre-fabricated bridge can be put in place. Next, the bridge concrete decking and approach sidewalks will be poured. The Park District will provide construction updates at glenviewparks.org/capital-projects.
