Fir Street Improvements

The week of September 15th, the contractors have finished installing the remaining asphalt driveways before installing the sod on Fir Street before preparing to install the final layer of asphalt and completing the project. The tentative plan is to pave the final surface course next week, but the contractors must first remove and replace the path at Swainwood park with new 6’ wide sidewalk.

The week of September 8th, the contractors have completed installing the concrete curb, sidewalk and driveways. Today they also were able to install the first layer of asphalt. By the end of the day, you should be able to access your driveways again. Next week the contractors will finish installing asphalt driveways before installing the sod on Fir Street before preparing to install the final layer of asphalt and completing the project.

The week of September 1st, the contractors have begun installing the concrete work beginning with installing concrete curb and driveways. During this time, we are asking that you park on the adjacent side streets called out in the notice that you should have received today and also will be redistributed on Tuesday September 2nd.  Next week the contractors plan on installing the remaining driveways and begin final preparation of the road before the first layer of asphalt is installed on the road.

The week of August 25, the contractors have continued preparing the yards for sod and have also completed the road excavation.  Next week the contractors plan on installing concrete curb starting Thursday, September 4th, where we are asking that you park on the adjacent side streets called out in the notice that you should have received today and also will be redistributed on Tuesday September 2nd.  Please keep lookout for notices that we plan on hand delivering towards the end of next week explaining what to expect during the concrete pours after the holiday.

The week of August 18, the contractors have continued preparing the yards for sod and  have also begun the road excavation. With this phase they will remove the existing road to the subgrade where they will then add stone to bring the new road up to grade. This will continue into next week as we will continue prepping the road with a tentative goal of beginning concrete curb work starting Wednesday, September 3rd.  Please keep lookout for notices that we plan on hand delivering towards the end of next week explaining what to expect during the concrete pours after the holiday.

The week of August 11, the contractors have completed installing all of the underground utilities including storm sewer, sanitary services and water main. Tomorrow they will be around doing clean up, jetting the trenches which involves pumping water where they installed pipe and clean up in yards in preparation for sod. 

The following week, the contractors will continue preparing the yards for sod and also will begin the road excavation. With this phase they will removing the existing road to the subgrade where they will then add stone to bring the new road up to grade.

The week of August 4, the contractors will began making improvements to the Village storm sewer by removing and replacing the existing 6” storm sewer main with new 12” to 16” and also upsizing the structures that will help increase the capacity of the storm sewer that is currently on the street. They also reinstalled pre-existing private storm sewer services into the new main or structures as well. 

The week August 11, contractors will finish installing the storm sewer and wrapping up the final sanitary connections on Fir Street before preparation for curb.

The week of July 28, the contractor has completed installing the water services and making the final connections to the watermain on Shermer road and the South Cedarwood Lane connection. During this time they also installed new sanitary services from the main to a cleanout in the right of way so that there are all new services in the public right of way.

Residents will receive notice before their new water service is scheduled to be installed. While the contractor is connecting your new service, you will experience a water service interruption that could last up to one hour. The Village understands that not having water, even for a short period of time, is an inconvenience and we greatly appreciate your patience.   

The week of July 28, the contractors will continue installing water and sanitary services starting where they left off the previous week. They also plan on working on making the final connections to the existing water main on Cedarwood and Shermer so please keep an eye out on notices from public works with shutdown information.

Residents will receive notice before their new water service is scheduled to be installed. While the contractor is connecting your new service, you will experience a water service interruption that could last up to one hour. The week of June 30th the contractor finished installing the water main on Fir and will begin cleaning the street in preparation for the holiday, 

The week of July 7th the contractor is required to perform standardized testing on the new water main before it can be put into service. These tests include pressure testing and water main chlorination.

The week of June 23 the contractor began work by pulverizing the existing pavement. This will essentially turn Fir Street into a gravel road. They are started the installation of the new water main. They made their initial connection on cedarwood.

The week of June 30 they will continue with the installation of water starting where they left off the previous week.

The week of June 16 the contractor plans on starting work on Fir Street. They began by mobilizing in materials and equipment. Also, the contractor marked out existing public and private utilities. 

The week of June 23 the contractor plans to start work by pulverizing the existing pavement. This will essentially turn Fir Street into a gravel road. They are also planning to start the installation of the new water main. They will make their initial connection on Cedarwood.

The week of June 9 the contractor prepared the road for asphalt as they plan on paving the first layer of asphalt early next week on Swainwood Drive. 

The week of June 16 the contractor plans on starting work on Fir Street. They plan on starting by pulverizing the existing pavement and leaving it in place making Fir street, essentially, a gravel road for the duration of the project. The contractor also plans on make the initial connection for the new water main at the intersection of cedarwood and fir. This will cause a momentary water shut down as the contractor makes the connection. Please be on the lookout for a notice from Glenview Public Works that will give more details for the shutdown.

Welcome to the project updates page for Fir Street Reconstruction Project. Project updates will typically be posted on Fridays of each week. The contract was awarded to DiMeo Brothers Inc. of Elk Grove Village Illinois. 

During the week of March 10, 2025, the contractor will begin mobilization for the project. This includes utility markings and layout in advance of the new water main and storm sewer spot repairs. The contractor will also stage material throughout the project including pipe and manholes.

The week of March 17, 2025, the contractor will begin installing new water main tentatively beginning at Swainwood and Roosevelt and working west. Installation of the new water main is anticipated to take four weeks.
