The Village of Glenview Fire Department has 84 sworn members and responds to over 10,000 calls for service each year.

ISO rating

The department has earned a fire insurance rating of 2 from the Fire Insurance Services Office (ISO) of Illinois. ISO ratings are based on fire department services and protection, local water supply, as well as department communications. The rating system runs from 1-10 (1 being the best). Glenview's high rating means that property owners enjoy relatively low insurance rates.

Special rescue teams

As a member of MABAS (mutual aid box alarm system) Division 3, many of our members are specially trained. MABAS is an organization which assists in coordinating mutual aid between communities and manages regional special rescue teams. These special rescue teams respond with personnel and equipment specific to each discipline. The Glenview Fire Department has members on the following special teams:

Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team (Dive)

The Village has numerous lakes, ponds and rivers throughout the community. This team provides a quick response of highly trained divers and special equipment to the scene of water and ice rescue operations. The team is also responsible for locating and retrieving submerged evidence to assist other village departments during investigations.

Technical Rescue Team (TRT)

The TRT team is specially trained to mitigate incidents that are above the typical training level of firefighters. The TRT team responds to specialty incidents such as:

-High Angle Elevated Rescues

-Trench Collapse

-Confined Space Rescue

-Structural Collapse Incidents

-Natural Disasters/Tornados

Hazardous Materials Team (HAZMAT)

The Glenview Fire Department uses prevention, preparation, education and ongoing training to provide an effective formula to control hazardous materials. This team responds to incidents such as:

-Overturned tankers

-Fuel Spills

-Chemical releases/spills

-Unknown Substances

-Railroad Incidents

Unmanned Aircraft System Team (Drone)

The Glenview Fire Department drone team provides real-time aerial and thermal images to give incident commanders better situational awareness and keep firefighters out of dangerous positions. This specialty team can respond to structure fires, hazardous materials, and technical rescue incidents to assess conditions, fire spread, hidden fires or leaks. The team also supports search-and-rescue missions by locating missing or trapped persons using thermal cameras, especially in low-visibility conditions. Drones are additionally used for disaster response, post-incident damage assessments, training, and fire investigation documentation.

Fire Investigation Team (FI)

These members are certified with the State Fire Marshal in fire investigation. Pursuant to Illinois State law, the department is responsible for investigating the origin and cause of all fires.  Due to the extensive nature of some investigations, the FI team will respond to surrounding communities to assist with their investigations.
